What is your most important money goal?
I would say retirement—I’m already thinking about that.
Are you doing anything about it? Do you have a 401(k) or something similar?
No 401(k), but I’m depositing a little bit of money each month into mutual funds and stuff like that.
What do you do?
I do the books for a restaurant.
Do you have a finance background?
No, I just kind of fell into it. I was in the Peace Corps last year, so coming back I needed to find something.
Where were you in the Peace Corps?
The Gambia. It’s in West Africa.
Were you there for two years then? What did you do there?
Yeah, two years. We helped people eat better, wash their hands—just simple stuff.
Were you living in New York before?
No, I just always wanted to live here.
Where are you from?
When you retire, how do you envision your life?
Ideally, it’ll be pretty much the same. I won’t have to worry about anything.
Would you still live in the city?
No, I’d have a farm somewhere. Be relaxed. Live in the country.
